Veteran Evicted by Katy Perry From $15 Million Mansion: Fans Call It ‘Unforgivable’

Pop star Katy Perry has been labeled "entitled" and "unforgivable" by the family of the 85-year-old veteran she evicted from her $15 million Montecito, California mansion. She is now suing him for $6 million in "lost rental value" and alleged "damages."
The dispute began in 2020, when Perry entered into a deal to purchase Carl Westcott’s Montecito property for $15 million. However, Westcott, an entrepreneur, backed out just days later, claiming he had been influenced by painkillers when agreeing to the sale.
Westcott’s attorneys argued that his age, frailty due to a back condition and recent surgery, as well as the painkillers he was taking, made him mentally incapable of making the decision. In contrast, Perry’s legal team maintained that Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers, was in full control of his faculties at the time of the agreement and only wanted to cancel because he couldn’t find a suitable alternative home in Montecito that met his preferences and budget.
After years of legal conflict, the case was resolved in December 2023, with a judge ruling in Perry’s favor and upholding the original sales contract, which had been facilitated by her business manager, Bernie Gudvi.

Andrew Watt Defends Rolling Stones' Grammy Win, Hints at Lady Gaga's 'Mayhem'

Producer and songwriter Andrew Watt has transitioned from the pop world to collaborating with his rock idols, from the Rolling Stones to Pearl Jam. Now, he's back in the heart of pop as the executive producer of Lady Gaga's upcoming album Mayhem. With a career currently soaring, Watt recently won a Grammy for the Stones’ Hackney Diamonds, earned an Oscar nomination for a track with Elton John and Brandi Carlile (who also have a Watt-produced dual album on the way), and saw a long reign at Number One with Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With A Smile.”
In the latest episode of Rolling Stone Music Now, Watt shares fascinating behind-the-scenes stories from his work with these legendary artists and more. You can catch the full episode on your preferred podcast platform, or listen via Apple Podcasts or Spotify — or simply hit play above. Below are some key moments from the discussion:
Watt passionately defended the Rolling Stones’ recent Grammy win against critics who argued it overlooked younger rock bands. "They’re in their eighties,” Watt says. “They’re 82 and 83 years old. Tell me another band in history that’s made an album this good in their 80s, with that level of songwriting and performance. Forget the production—I’m just pressing record and making sure it sounds good. They’re playing, singing, writing, and performing their hearts out. You can't tell me another band that has ever made an album in their 80s that’s this good, and the reason you can't is because rock and roll isn’t that old! It gives you faith in humanity and shows what people are capable of.”
Watt also believes that AI’s rise will bring pop music back to more authentic, human performances. "It's no coincidence that alongside all this live instrumentation, AI is on the rise," he says. “People are realizing that computers are getting so advanced, they can handle a lot of tasks. So, what’s the realest, rawest thing AI can’t replicate?”
