Inside Will Smith’s ‘Hate’ for Chris Rock: New Details from a Recent Report

Nearly three years have passed since the infamous slapping incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards, but tensions between the two stars seem to persist. A recent report suggests that Smith "still hates" Rock, shedding light on the ongoing animosity. The incident, one of the most controversial moments in recent entertainment history, occurred when Rock made an unscripted joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, which was a result of her battle with alopecia. Smith responded by slapping Rock on stage.
The situation took a dramatic turn when Smith went on to win his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard that same night. After the altercation, Smith publicly apologized to Rock, the Academy, and the viewers, admitting that his actions were “out of line” and did not reflect the person he wanted to be. Despite the apology, the Academy imposed a 10-year ban on Smith, preventing him from attending the Oscars or any related events. However, the controversy continues to resurface, with Rock occasionally addressing the incident in his stand-up routines.
According to a new report from InTouch Weekly, a source close to Will Smith revealed that the actor still harbors resentment towards Chris Rock, especially due to what Smith perceives as Rock’s “smug attitude” following the incident. The source claimed that Smith feels he’s getting the “last laugh” as Rock faces controversy of his own, such as an incident last month when Rock walked off stage minutes into a performance at an event hosted by Pratt Industries’ executive chairman Anthony Pratt.
“Will’s getting the last laugh and loving it. He will never forgive Chris for ruining his life, even though he’s managed to pick up the pieces in the last year or so,” the insider shared with InTouch Weekly. “He still hates the guy and his smug attitude.” The source also added that, in Smith’s view, Chris isn’t the victim. “A lot of people would agree with Will and think what’s happening to Chris is karma for refusing to speak to Will or accept his apology.” While acknowledging that violence in response to a joke is unjustifiable, the source noted that Rock has also been deeply affected by the incident. “From Chris’ end, he’s still haunted by what happened on that Oscars stage. He suffers from PTSD. Like Will, he’s never recovered from that slap.” The source concluded that some believe the best resolution would be for the two men to reconcile, but their pride may stand in the way. “The best thing would be for these two egomaniacs to come together and hug it out, but they’re too proud.”
